I just turned the big 3 0 and still have Kool Moe Dee in my heavy
rotation (on cassette tape of course). So I realize that I’m slowly
losing touch with all the latest fads. But I still have to wonder when
the “greasy negro” aesthetic came into fashion. Kunta Kente didn’t even
enjoy the kind of sheen today’s rappers flaunt. Who’s green lighting
these covers? Is there an executive saying, “More grease, we need more
grease!”
Someone's got to be behind these marketing strategies. We have to find out who these folk are. Expose them to the masses. And, of course, send plenty of mail in protest of their marketing stratigies
And
to show you how serious we are, we’ll send the first person that
locates any valid information on the marketing team behind these album
covers a free copy of Roots (on DVD). You’ll be the envy of your
friends.
So if you have any info, pass it along. In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes open.
